The VC, Dr KK Dave, ProVC Dr Manas Ranjan, among others, joined them to unveil the various functions held to mark World Food Day 2026.
The Venkateshwara Group Founder President, Shri Sudhir Giri, reiterated that there is no shortage of food grains globally, and certainly not in India. What is needed is a firm resolve to stop the unnecessary wastage of food—often seen at weddings, birthdays, and other celebrations—and ensure that food reaches every hungry person.
The experts informed that global food grain production is over 1.5 times the amount required to sustain the current population. Yet in one-third of the world’s nations, over 25 percent of the population suffers from hunger.
This is because significant amounts of food are being needlessly wasted. They highlighted that when people—including the educated—take excessive portions of food at weddings, birthdays, or other social gatherings, only to discard more than half of it into trash bins, they are effectively depriving millions of hungry people of their right to food. They also led the attendees in taking a pledge to respect both food and the farmers who produce it, and to put an end to food wastage.
