Bachelor of library science?

The Bachelor of library science is a 1 year course after graduation that trains to manage and upgrade physical & digital libraries.

Just as books are essential for acquiring knowledge, it’s equally important to organize them to ensure learners can find them easily.

A librarian is a learned person who manages books and other resources in a proper manner so that we can retrieve them with ease.

He manages a database of information sources, such as books, catalogues, journals, and electronic information. The aim is to ensure that researchers access the needed information with ease without wasting time.

The Bachelor of Library Science is a career-focused course, and with the emergence of new educational institutions, the demand for information managers is increasing.

Every educational institution requires a librarian to manage its knowledge ecosystem so that learners have access to up-to-date information.

With digitalization pervading every sphere, the libraries are no different. Now librarians are database experts who manage digital libraries so that users can retrieve information at the click of a mouse.

They are like information managers who organize resources for seekers to find information.

The Bachelor of Library Science course (B.Lib. Sc) is available in both Government & private institutions because not everyone can get admission into Government colleges owing to limited seats.

Bachelor of library science eligibility

Graduation in any discipline from a recognized board with a minimum of 45% marks. 5% relaxation to SC/ST candidates.

Graduates from any field can enrol in this course as they’ll develop skills in managing information.

Librarian course after 12 th

For pursuing the Bachelor of Library Science course, one should be graduate but 12th pass outs can do a diploma in library science.

The Diploma in Library Science (DLibSc) is a 1 year course after class 12th so that candidates gain basic knowledge about managing the library.

Eligibility – 10+2 or equivalent in any discipline from a recognized board with a minimum of 45% marks. Minimum age should be 17 years. 5% relaxation to SC/ST candidates.

Librarian course fees

Government institutions offer courses at lower fees because they receive grants from the government, while private institutions do not receive such subsidies.

In India, the average course fees in Public Colleges is INR 14830 while in private ones its 27770.

In UP the bachelor of library science average course fee at public colleges is INR 20390, while at private ones it is INR 22180. While in MP, the average course fees at Public institutions is INR 14820, while in private ones it is INR 22520.

In Rajasthan, the Public colleges charge INR 9610 while private colleges charge INR 29430 as their average course fees. In Uttarakhand INR 5600 is the average fees in public colleges compared to INR 33550 at private institutions.

In Delhi NCR, public colleges charge INR 28750 as their average fees compared to private ones that charge INR 38830 as the fees. While in Bihar, public colleges charge an average fees of INR 13220 compared to private institutions that charge INR 20320 as their fees.

In Punjab, the average course fees at public colleges is INR 23710 while in private ones it’s INR 40500. Similarly, Government colleges in Haryana charge INR 13190 as their fees compared to Private ones that charge a fee of INR 33750..

Those planning to study bachelor of Library Science from Gujarat Government colleges will have to dole out INR 15250 and INR 32520 for studying at private ones.  

If you want to study Bachelor of Library Science in WB Government colleges, then shell out INR 5170 as the average fees while in private ones it costs INR 60000. Similarly, in TN, public colleges charge INR 6730 as their fees compared to private ones that charge INR 10000.
