Role of Medical Professionals in Road Safety Awareness in India

Shri Venkateshwara University and Venkateshwara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) hosted a national seminar on the Role of Medical Professionals in Road Safety Awareness in India.

Dr BKS Sanjay, AIIMS Guwahati president and Padamshree awardee, was the chief guest at the event.

Pro-Chancellor Dr Rajeev Tyagi and the Medical Dean Dr Sanjeev Bhatt felicitated Dr BKS Sanjay by gifting him a patka, turban and a memento.

Dr. BKS Sanjay, a renowned orthopedic surgeon, stated that with active participation and awareness, doctors and medical students could save 100,000 lives each year.

He emphasized that in any road accident, whether minor or severe, medical professionals play a crucial role in saving lives during the first hour after the incident.

They do so by giving first aid, transporting the patient to a higher centre where they administer swift advanced treatment that helps to save lives.

The Venkateshwara Group Founder President Dr Sudhir Giri reiterated that maintaining road safety and preventing road accidents is not the sole responsibility of the government only but of every citizen.

Dr. Rajeev Tyagi, the Pro Chancellor, said that following traffic rules can save lives. Wearing a helmet on a two-wheeler and using a seat belt in a car helps. Do not drive drunk or use a phone while driving. These simple actions could save over 400,000 lives each year in India.

Those present included the Medical Dean Dr Sanjeev H Bhatt, CMS Dr Suresh Mehta, Dr Supriti Bhatnagar, Dr BS Tyagi, Dr Sachi Ahlawat, Dr Deepali Gupta, Dr Sachin Tutu, Dr Altaf, and Dr Ruchi Maan.

Dr Hari Om Sharma and Dr Sonia Rawat were also present in the seminar on the Role of Medical Professionals in Road Safety Awareness in India. The Meerut Campus Director, Dr Pratap Singh, was present along with the Media Incharge, Mr. Vishwas Rana, among others. Dr Supriti Bhatnagar, Associate Professor of Anatomy, conducted the program very well.
