Eye Donation Awareness Program 2025

VIMS Multispecialty Hospital, part of Shri Venkateshwara University, held an Eye Donation Awareness Program 2025. They also hosted a seminar called “Love Your Eyes” to celebrate World Eye Day on October 9, 2025.

Over a dozen ophthalmologists took part in the event.

Further, they informed attendees about the value of eyes, their care and consulting eye specialists for effective treatment. Further they encouraged them to donate eyes after death.  

Pro-Chancellor Dr Rajeev Tyagi, VC Dr KK Dave, CMS Dr Suresh Mehta and the Ophthalmology HOD Dr Kishore Gawekar inaugurated the event by lighting a lamp to Goddess Saraswati.

Colonel Dr Sumit Singh and Dr Abhay Bhatnagar joined them to unveil the Eye Donation Awareness Program 2025 and seminar on Love Your Eyes.

Medical students and VIMS doctors informed participants about the benefits of voluntary eye donation through a street play.

Moreover, through voluntary eye donation, we can bring light into the lives of over 3 crore blind people. This motivated 34 people and they registered for voluntary eye donation post death.

The Venkateshwara Group Founder President Dr Sudhir Giri reiterated eyes are the most precious organ gifted by God. By donating our eyes post-death, we can do the most humane work of bringing light into the lives of blind individuals.

The Pro Chancellor Dr Rajeev Tyagi, asserted that educational institutions should come forward in educating people about eye diseases, eye donation, treatment of blindness and visual impairment. Apart from the Government, they can play an active role, being played by voluntary organizations like the Lions Club, Rotary Club, etc.

Moreover, renowned ophthalmologist Dr Kishore Gawekar affirmed that with an increase in eye banks there has been a ray of hope for blind people.

But to eradicate blindness, we have to establish thousands of eye banks just like blood banks in the country. Let’s all pledge to donate our eyes after death.   

Those present included Dr Sumit Singh, Dr BS Tyagi, Dr Abhay Bhatnagar, Dr Supriti Bhatnagar, Dr Anurag Mishra, Dr Shubha Maksood, Dr Vinit Singh, Dr Pradeep, Dr Sangam, and Dr Anukriti.

Moreover, Dr Rubi, Dr Tarannum, Dr Aalok, and Dr Aditi were all present. The Meerut Campus Director, Dr Pratap Singh, was present along with the Media Incharge, Mr. Vishwas Rana, among others.
