Workshop on Prevention of Sexual Harassment

Shri Venkateshwara University and Venkateshwara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) jointly hosted a workshop on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment.

Vision India’s certified trainers, Ms. Priyanka Garg and Saima Anwar, educated the present management, men and women employees. They informed about the ways to prevent sexual harassment of women in the workplace. Both trainers are associated with the Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD).

Pro-Chancellor Dr Rajeev Tyagi, VC Dr KK Dave and the Registrar Dr Piyush Pandey inaugurated the event by lighting a lamp to Goddess Saraswati.

Chief guests and keynote speakers Ms. Priyanka Garg and Saima Anwar along with the CMS Dr Suresh G Mehta joined them to unveil the Prevention of Sexual Harassment national workshop.

Dr. Sudhir Giri, the Founder President of the Venkateshwara Group, reiterated that the Indian Constitution protects the right to equality. Based on this, providing a safe and respectable environment to women is not only the responsibility of the Government alone but the moral responsibility of every citizen.

Pro-Chancellor Dr Rajeev Tyagi affirmed that by putting an end to sexual harassment and through women empowerment we will realize the dream of a Developed India.

Ms. Priyanka Garg asserted that in the event of facing sexual harassment, whether it’s physical or mental, the victim shouldn’t keep quiet but raise their voice against it.

She said that to prevent sexual harassment against women the government has enacted the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act.

Under this, women who do not get a respectable and safe workplace environment and face sexual harassment there is a strong provision of severe punishment under the act. But this is only possible when women report any such incident without fear. Women should keep in mind not to make false allegations out of jealousy or other reasons against any innocent otherwise, the law will penalize them for misusing the act.

Moreover, Ms. Saima Anwar stated that to safeguard their fundamental rights and to get a respectable environment, women should follow workplace policies, protocols, and customs and show discipline. Without fear and worrying about protocol, they should work in full coordination with male colleagues and turn their workspace into a Centre of excellence. Saima Anwar is a certified trainer from Posh India.

Those present included Dr Rajesh Bansal, Dr Najmal Huda, Dr Rihana Huda, Dr BS Tyagi, Dr Supriti Bhatnagar, HR Head Mr. Kuldeep Singh, Prashant, Dr Shilpa Raina, Dr Neetu Panwar, and Dr Jyoti.

Dr Snehlata, SS Baghel, Meerut Campus Director Dr Pratap Singh and the Media Incharge Mr. Vishwas Rana were present along with others.
