Is hard work important?

Yes, hard work is important because when you work hard, you gain mastery over a skill or sport leading to success.

In fact, hard work is the key to success because putting in extra effort leads to improvement in the trait or sport.

The story of achievers reveals they slogged day & night to achieve their dreams because they worked hard for success.

People often blame luck for unfulfilled desires. I disagree because when we give our 100 percent, luck favours us, as we are the masters of our destiny.

The amount of hard work one puts in is proportional to their interest in that field. When we enjoy doing something, we don’t feel burdened but enjoy doing the task. This is the reason for success because when we love something, we immerse ourselves in that task, leading to success.

Sports Champions practice 8–10 hours every day because they love the game and enjoy it. Similarly, exam toppers are not only determined but study by heart, leading to merit.

Michael Phelps, the legendary American Swimmer, trains for five to six hours a day at six days a week. He is the most successful swimmer with a tally of 28 medals. These champions have a gruelling workout schedule which ensures they meet the required parameters & win medals for the country.

Without hard work, one cannot gain success because by consistent practice one attains zenith in their field. Neeraj Chopra India’s stalwart Javelin thrower trains 6- 7 hours a day to ensure he is throwing well ahead the best throwers of the world.

Why is hard work important for success?

Hard work is important for success because, with intense competition, the bar is steep, requiring more efforts to succeed. Every year the competition is intensifying as enormous aspirants attempt exams leading to higher selection cut off.

A look at the number of aspirants who applied for the prestigious UPSE CSE exam reveals an upward trend. 1057948 candidates applied in the year 2020 compared to 1093948 in 2021 and 1152000 in the year 2022, which shows an increasing trend. There are only a few vacancies every year (only approximately 1000, for all the 24 services combined like IAS, IPS, IFS etc–and this includes 49.5% reservation).

These figures entail consistent hard work because only then one can crack these exams.

Increased competition owing to more participants has raised the championship bar. The intense competition in sports drives athletes to practice for hours to meet the high eligibility criteria for the championship.

In fact, new champions are born in tennis as they outplay many of the high rated players owing to their skill. In times of intense competition, only hard work ensures survival. Students scoring 80 percent & above have become the new norm, as many candidates score in this range.

Those who cannot score above 75 percent come in the mediocre category because most candidates are scoring well above the 80 percent mark. Hard work is crucial for admission to top colleges, with 80% now the norm..

Take any course B.Tech, BBA, or MBA. There is a mad rush for premium colleges because they offer placement for a better life. We adorn legends who put in enormous hard work to reach the pinnacle of glory because there is no shortcut to success.

Those climbing the Mount Everest cannot do so unless they are determined and work hard to reach the top. They will face a lot of hardships and obstacles, but their determination, coupled with consistent efforts, bears the fruit.

Our former President, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, used to sell newspapers in his childhood to earn a living. Through consistent efforts, he educated himself against all hardships and became the Missile man of the country.

JEE & NEET toppers slog 8–9 hours daily to master the topics leading to good performance in the exams. Despite regular bouts of frustration, they persistently work towards their dream of studying in the top IITs and medical institutions in the country.

Success stories of achievers reveal that their consistent efforts were the trump card. Hence, this proves that hard work is important for success in life.
